Join the adventure, that is ................................ the Boy Scouts of America !!
The Troop @ Graceland meets on Monday nights at 7pm next to the Apex. Ours is a “Boy Led Troop” allowing the boys to make the decisions concerning the operation, and activities that are scheduled. This teaches responsibility and builds leadership skills. The adult leaders are there to guide and help.
We offer many opportunities throughout the year to camp and learn basic outdoor skills. We believe that spending time outdoors gives the boys the chance to not only enjoy the world that God has created for us, but also an opportunity to get away from the TV and video games that seem to dominate some of the boys time.
We are flexible concerning attendance where sports are an issue. Each boy progresses at his own pace. We regularly offer Merit Badge courses, and Rank advancement requirements are guided, by qualified counselors. The leadership in our Troop has many years of Scouting experience to share with the boys.
Of the boys that visit and join our Troop, most stay in Scouting and reach the rank of Eagle, some in less than 3 years. They learn to cook, take care of their own finances, and generally be responsible for themselves and to others in the community. Reverence to God is shared along with his Word and relevent devotionals.
The boys get the chance to do service projects in the community, and learn about giving to others. We have clothing and food drives each year, and the boys are offered the chance to work at fund raising events where they can earn their own money, kept on acct as credits, to put towards paying their own way thru the program. Let us help you "Bridge over" from a Pack, or get your older son 11-15, started from scratch.
We encourage you to visit other Troops to find the one that your son likes the best, and the one that you feel most comfortable with. Please feel free to visit us some Monday night to see if your son would like to join us. Boys age 11, or 10 years old and passed 5th grade, or “Arrow of Light” recipient and 10 years old. Bring your Webelo Dens to visit. We offer opportunities, to spend the evening or campout with the Troop, for Arrow of Light requirements.
Come join the adventure!
